All around, the media is bombarding us, and especially our daughters, with a worldly definition of beauty. They are selling the latest commercial beauty product, beauty fad, or procedure, and many are buying into it. I want to just remind us to think about keeping beauty in perspective when we talk about natural beauty alternatives and how to make them .
Do you remember these phrases: “Beauty is as beauty does” or “Beauty is only skin deep”? Probably your mom or grandmother has said these at least once in your lifetime…they’re called idioms, or American proverbs. They mean that true beauty has more to do with your character and heart than what you see on the outside.
But, there is Biblical truth to these idioms; look at these verses:
Proverbs 31:30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.
1 Peter 3:3-4 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.
1 Timothy 2:9-10 In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing, but, which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works.
I want emphasize that as we look at natural beauty alternatives on this website, we should be conscious that there is more to beauty than what the world would have us believe. It’s not that outward beauty is undesirable, but that as these verses point out, the inward beauty of a godly woman is far more attractive and lasting than her outward beauty.
Together my family and our friends are learning just how much God provided vegetation capable of nourishing, protecting and repairing our bodies down to the smallest detail.

The goal of Happy Real Women is to provide you understanding into how to apply this in your lives. We don’t believe you have to, or should abandon your skin care routine or cosmetics, but should keep beauty in perspective. Just like Peter said, outward adornment should not be our primary focus.
